Many Blender users also uses 3DS Max. The two programs are similar in principles of working process.

These towers are in 3DS and Rhinoceros 3D formats. They are based on real towers. The two 3D files are zipped as a single file.

The model contains textures, bone armature and hair particles. Cloths and person is created as a single mesh.

Seriously, I think Lightwave is better...

I will go for XSI...

Very hard to help without images.

But, I think a good method is to use the 'Cloning' tool.

I think Truespace is based on DirectX.

My favoriite is Carrara and Blender.

Carrara because its cheap but produce good renderings.

Blender is powerful and free.
